All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, shall be as valid against the United States. Article 6 0f the U.S. Constitution. #NotNegotiable Please RT.
If POTUS caves in on "shutdown over policy" or "debt ceiling as leverage", it is the equivalent of granting the House a permanent filibuster. But the Republicans "want something" - anything, so that it is precedent. That's why they say he gave them something in 2011 for debt ceiling raise, why not now? In 2011 I can see where POTUS saw the risk of default as such a setback to the economic recovery that he did it - but I don't think he ever imagined that it would be precedent. Doing it again however, wil clearly establish it as such. That is why he knows he can't.
Giving the House a filibuster option is NOT in the Constitution. In fact, Article Six of the Constitution states "All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.". Violating that is violating the clear language of the Constitution. I don't know why more people in the media aren't talking about this. He swore to uphold that Constitution, as they all did.
