So, let the scams begin. From fake callers who try to indicate that they are calling from the government to help you, to your own useless insurance agent trying to claw whatever fees they can for doing nothing.
Follow below for two stories
Before I get into the stories let me first state the following for disclosure and background purposed.
Our thoughts and personal results from the ACA:
1. We did sign up for a Platinum Plan which is comparable to our current coverage
2. For my wife and I we are saving $11,000 per year on the cost of Ins
3. The launch of Healthcare.gov has been an inexcusable and 100% unnecessary disaster, from a technical perspective
Fake Call:
So two nights ago I get a call from a person indicating they were calling about the insurance we were looking for. Since the only place I looked for insurance was at Healthcare.gov my ears perked up when she said the name of an insurer she represented which was different from Humana that I had selected.
I quizzed her about this and all she said is I have a licensed Insurance counselor online for you. I said to her again, How did you get my number and she said "We are responding to your request for insurance" I specifically said, "are you with Healthcare.gov" and she again said "I have a counselor standing by for you" so I said please connect me.
By this time I realized that this was a fake call so I said to this counselor, before you begin are you calling me from Healthcare.gov and why are you from a different company than I selected...........click!
My Insurance agent:
Every year about this time we generally hear from our agent (never anytime else) and every year we ask her if there is no way to provide a policy for my wife and I for less than $22,000 per year. I have always gotten the feeling that she puts about 10 minutes each year into our case, never with any type of savings or even options. We would have changed agents years ago but the insurance was so hard to get we were scared to.
So, my wife emailed her and said that we are getting our insurance through the healthcare exchange. We get an mail back saying Oh, I can help you with this and it will not cost you anything.
1. I don't need your help
2. Interesting that you first tried to have me renew my crazy ass expensive policy and never mentioned the exchanges until we did
3. Yeah, maybe it will not cost me anything for you to help but I would guess you are charging the government for doing nothing, thanks but no thanks.
Why are people so dishonest :-)
