This won't be a very long diary. And it may not break upon any breaking news or anything like that.
The more our politics goes on in the direction that it does, this fascist, neoconservative, neoconfederate, direction, the more the news on the television and the internet resemble portions of The Wall by Pink Floyd.
even to the point that some of the public figures in the video snippets bear a striking resemblance to Diane Feinstein. I find this as bizarre as the resemblance between Senator Palpatine and Senator Lieberman.
In fact, she reminds me of the mother, trying to keep baby safe and clean in a most pathological manner.
I know we had that moment in the 80s when Reagan played the public theater to "Tear Down That Wall"in Eastern Europe, but that moment had been quite surreal to me, given who Reagan is, and what he stood for. It's all very good to tear down someone else's wall, as long as we get to keep building ours I suppose.
And now here we are, as a nation, becoming more than ever, what we purport to despise. How much we resemble what was behind that other wall. America peered so deeply into that abyss that it has peered right back into us. Showing us quite clearly we are not the do-gooders we would like everyone to believe we are.
Mamma's going to put all her fears into you.
Somewhere between Oedipus and Hades, I feel like that's where we are. I don't know which way we are going today or any day for that matter. Which ever way the strongest power yanks us in this or that moment I suppose.
I am not hopeless looking at this, just intrigued to see these familiar faces appear in reality, mockingly imitating art that is decades old. I feel like I have entered a dream world. As a nation that pops pills or has something to numb us for every little alarm bell, I often see it as an escape from Mother's deadly grasp on our collective psyche. But at the same time, it puts us out of reach of each other.
I don't believe Diane Feinstein is the author of all of our ills. Just remarking on the role she is playing right now, and how it matches the characters of this movie right now.
Does this ever happen to you? Does it mean anything to you when or if it does? Does the surreality of American politics lately, ever make you feel like you are stuck in a bad trip?
If we play the various political conventions on the television, along with the soundtrack to the Wizard of Oz, do you think they might synch up?
