Talks seeking Iran nuclear deal to enter third day
Talks in Geneva on Iran's nuclear programme are to resume on Saturday, after Friday's discussions ended late in the evening.
Earlier US Secretary of State John Kerry said there were still "important gaps" between Iran and world powers.
Meanwhile, President Obama telephoned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to allay fears over any deal.
Under a deal being floated, Iran could freeze expansion of its nuclear activity for limited sanctions relief.

Guardian editor to face MPs over Snowden intelligence leaks
Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger is to be questioned by MPs over the newspaper's publication of leaks by ex-US security contractor Edward Snowden.
Mr Rusbridger will give evidence to the Home Affairs Select Committee next month, a Guardian spokesman confirmed.
The Guardian has published information about how British and US spy agencies monitor communications.
The decision to publish the leaks was criticised by the leaders of UK security services on Thursday.

Nissan will reconsider its investment in the UK if Britain leaves the European Union, chief executive Carlos Ghosn has told the BBC.
Prime Minister David Cameron has promised a public vote on EU membership in 2017 if the Conservatives win the next general election in 2015.
But Mr Ghosn also added that he considered the exit scenario to be unlikely.
Nissan's new model will be built in Sunderland, where it employs 6,500.

Monster storm roars into Philippines
One of the strongest typhoons ever to hit land has slammed the Philippines, forcing millions to take shelter.
Packing sustained winds of up to 320 km/h (199mph), Typhoon Haiyan left at least four people dead, but it may be days before the full damage is known.
The storm ripped apart buildings and triggered landslides as it ploughed across the country's central islands.
Officials said more than 12 million people were at risk, but the storm's rapid passing could limit its impact.

Mogadishu blast: 'Suicide attack' in Somali capital
At least six people have been killed after a suspected suicide attack at a hotel in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu.
Interior Minister Abdikarim Hussein Guled told the BBC that 15 people had been injured after a car exploded outside the Hotel Maka.
The hotel lies on one of the capital's main roads, which the authorities say is usually safe.
Islamist militant group al-Shabab was driven out of Mogadishu two years ago but often stages attacks in the city.

Russia accuses Dutch over Greenpeace protest as king visits
(Reuters) - Russia criticized the Netherlands before talks with the Dutch king on Friday, accusing it of "inaction" in not preventing a Greenpeace protest at a Russian Arctic oil rig in which 30 people were arrested.
Hours before President Vladimir Putin and Dutch King Willem-Alexander met in Moscow, Russia's Foreign Ministry said the Netherlands was to blame because the Greenpeace icebreaker involved was registered in Amsterdam.
The September 18 protest against oil drilling off the Russian Arctic coast has strained relations between Moscow and The Hague.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told a regular ministry briefing that the "provocative action" by Greenpeace, in which some of the activists tried to scale Moscow's first offshore oil rig in the Arctic, had "grossly violated" Russian law.

Bank of America seeks U.S. mortgage bond lawsuits dismissal
(Reuters) - Bank of America Corp asked a federal court on Friday to throw out two U.S. government lawsuits accusing the nation's second-largest bank of defrauding investors during the financial crisis.
The U.S. Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission had accused the bank in lawsuits filed in August in its Charlotte, North Carolina hometown of fraud in its sale of $850 million of residential mortgage-backed securities.
Such cases are usually brought under the federal securities laws, under which authorities must prove that a defendant intended to break the law.
But the Justice Department case in particular relied on the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989. The government has turned increasingly to that law in pursuing cases linked to the financial crisis against banks, in part because of its 10-year statute of limitations.

SAC Capital pleads guilty in criminal court
(Reuters) - Steven A. Cohen's SAC Capital Advisors hedge fund pleaded guilty to fraud charges Friday as part of a $1.2 billion deal to resolve a long-running insider trading investigation, but it did not completely resolve the certainty of the fates of the firm or its principals.
Adding a layer of complexity to the plea, the judge on the case reserved her decision about whether to accept the plea until after reviewing the plea agreement along with a report prepared for the sentencing. (See Nussbaum's plea agreement here )
The lead prosecutor also said had the case gone to trial evidence would have come to light of misconduct by more than just the six people who had previously pled guilty - and became the basis of SAC's plea.
At a court hearing in Manhattan, SAC general counsel Peter Nussbaum entered the guilty plea to four counts of securities and one count of wire fraud charges, a crucial step toward ratification of the fund's record insider trading accord.

Senate panel approves beefed-up oversight of drone attacks
(Reuters) - The Senate Intelligence Committee has quietly approved a plan to step up both public and internal government oversight of the use of armed drones to kill suspected militants overseas, including American citizens.
The committee voted in closed session earlier this week to approve legislative language that would require U.S. spy agencies to make public statistics on how many people were killed or injured in missile strikes launched from U.S.-operated drones.
The committee also approved language intended to bolster scrutiny of secret spy agency deliberations over decisions about targeting U.S. citizens or residents for lethal drone strikes overseas.
The Obama administration has been under heavy pressure from foreign governments, the United Nations and human rights groups to be more transparent and rigorous in accounting for the civilian casualties caused by drone strikes.

Bernanke, other policymakers point to weakness in labor market
(Reuters) - Despite signs of improvement in the U.S. labor market, there is plenty of room for the jobless rate to fall further, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and two other top policymakers said on Friday, in comments that suggested continued support for the U.S. central bank's massive stimulus program.
The three spoke at separate events on the same day that the U.S. Labor Department reported surprisingly strong jobs growth in October, though they all cautioned about drawing conclusions from economic data.
Bernanke said he still sees an "awful lot of slack" in the labor market, while saying that economic data does not do a good job of providing an accurate measure.
Bernanke was not specifically referring to the latest employment report, which showed the unemployment rate rose to 7.3 percent in October while employers added 204,000 jobs, well above what economists had expected.

Iran, powers extend talks to clinch elusive nuclear deal
(Reuters) - Iran and six world powers extended high-stakes talks over Tehran's nuclear program into an unscheduled third day on Saturday, as their top diplomats labored to hammer out a long-sought deal to end a decade-old standoff.
The United States and Iran were cautious and tight-lipped after a five-hour trilateral meeting between their foreign ministers and European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who is coordinating talks with the Islamic state for the six powers.
They were searching for an agreement to ease international fears that Iran is seeking the capability to make nuclear weapons and, in exchange, offer the Middle East nation limited relief from sanctions that are hurting its economy.
The aim is to take a first step towards resolving a protracted dispute that could otherwise plunge the volatile and oil-rich region into a new conflict.
The Register:Sail HO! Look out San Francisco - 'tis the GOOGLE GALLEON
Sail HO! Look out San Francisco - 'tis the GOOGLE GALLEON
The mysterious Google vessel floating in San Francisco Bay is to feature towering sails enabling it to cruise around exhibiting the wonders of technology to an astonished coast, it has been reported.
According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, the barge will be an “unprecedented artistic structure” boasting about a dozen huge sails or "fins".
It is intended to “drive visitation to the waterfront," although this probably means attracting tourists, rather than summoning ghostly spirits to the shore.
The barge has previously been fingered as a floating data centre, a Google Glass shop or even a booze-cruising party boat. A statement from Google reached El Reg earlier this week claiming the barges were “an interactive space where people can learn about new technology.”
