Good morning!
This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we try to get together every Saturday morning around eleven, and then drift in and out throughout the day. We hope this group serves to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who these people are that we stand with, work with, and share with in the political process. We hope, through this community, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
If you would like to host a weekly open thread, please let us know.
Last Tuesday we had another fun Voter Registration event in front of the Westgate Earthfare, our third so far. Randall has a great writeup here. It was LamontCranston, RandallT and I once again at the table with a host of other characters adding color and conversation. We registered some folks and helped with precinct locations and other voter info.
If you're thinking about coming down and sitting with us, please do!
We are currently on the schedule at Earthfare every Tuesday in November; so mark your calendars now while you're thinking about it. We're there from 3:00 to 6:00.
And last Tuesday was also election day. Democrats won here in Asheville, and GulfGal reports that we won down in Brevard as well. I haven't heard any reports from other towns around Western North Carolina; so if you have any news, let us know in the comments.
There's a nice article on local winter food in Mountain Xpress, with interviews of local chefs and growers on how they can continue to provide fresh local food in the winter. Mentioned in the article are "new zoning rules passed by Asheville City Council allowing hoop structures and greenhouses to be built without permits" and the health benefits of eating fresh local seasonal produce. If you eat out, support locally owned restaurants that support local growers.
That's all I have at the moment. If you know of anything going on in the area that we might be interested in, post about it in the comments.
And enjoy your Saturday!
