A year after President Obama led D's to a resounding re-election. Some Democrats and Progressives are once again flirting with their losing ways in national politics. Its time to snap out of it. Separating from the President is near political suicide. Just a short year ago The Obama Biden team saved the day, and the American way, in a solid popular majority win and an electoral landslide. By running a genius 'block and tackle' campaign, appealing to the center while turning out base Obama voters in bigger numbers than ’08. - In Ohio the increase in the African American vote alone was the margin of victory. In Florida and Virginia Latinos women and Asians rallied. The youth vote went up.
Imagine the nightmare of a Romney imperium in light of the intransigence and obstruction from the Rcons. -The voter suppression and out right attempt at oppression of women’s rights and personal dignity.
Recent polls showing lower numbers for the President reflect hard calculated R-con dysfunction in Congress. ‘They’ put party before country.’ These folk have set out to do everything and anything to deny this President and any Democratic President a successful run of government, as a sad strategy and twisted tactic. The President’s big infrastructure rally and speech in New Orleans set the table, for retaking the congress and state legislatures and Exec Mansions. Jobs and opportunity? This is a big issue. And Democrats better start acting like they know it.
This knowledge by President Obama Reid and Pelosi is what carried the day in the recent Gov’t Shutdown and debt ceiling showdown. The D’s won by standing strong, by backing unflinching leadership. The, ‘I will not negotiate with hostage takers.’ cut R-cons to the bone. And now the Rcons are looking to get beat down again in January. Senator Patty Murray has Paul Ryan by the scruff of the neck in budget talks. ‘He is too scared of the Tea Party bullies to do his job for the country. And everybody knows it.’ If Democrats cut out the stupid defensive crap on Health Care and a few web site glitches and go on the offensive across the board on jobs health national security. With a hard eye on ’14. Good things will happen.
The key to victory is to back The President’s play every day and in nearly every way. It’s called party discipline. That’s basically how Bill DeBlasio got a landslide in NYC and Terry MaAuliffe prevailed. The country likes and respects that. The Rcons should be whining ‘Obama is trying to destroy the R’s.’ Or like Jindal ‘The President can’t bully us on health care’ Oh really? Bullies are the first ones to cry loudly when they get hit back.
The Democrats lose when they are perceived as being weak and uncertain, particularly in red states and districts. The media plays up the divisions, especially with this President. Today people respect political strength from Democrats Red state (D) Senators need to know that. Jobs and infrastructure investment in education and opportunity is what most people want to hear because it impacts them and theirs.
And then look at NJ. Really what did the Party Chairwoman do to help Barbra Buono? The day after, she had a lot to say about the incumbent, but where was she in the run up to the election. It was pathetic and scary. How does something like that happen; what's up with the DNC?
Thus the question, Can the Democrats win absent an Obama on the ticket. It is an open question. Ann Coulture was recently chortling in a Lamont Hill interview that, ‘after the Obama sensation the Democrats will go back to their losing ways. Get that? The Rcons know the Obamas Mr. and Mrs. are political gold.
If the Democrats and progressives want to keep Obama voters engaged and motivated they had better start putting this political genius and hero of a man up on Mount Rushmore, now. Seriously.
Even if it’s only for self-interest and political survival. Plus it drives the Rcons nuts.
And, he deserves the high praise; based on the merits of his administration and the warm sure steady sense of victory inclusion and progress he has brought to the table in a hyper partisan age.
