Joe Scarbourough did a rant on Morning Joe this week, "just get out of Afghanistan" - first time I recall agreeing with him.
It is time to just get out. Whatever will happen in that country is not up to the USA. Soon almost 60 Billion dollars will have been spent by the USA alone in training Afghan forces. How many more billions will be spent and for how many more years? How many more years of the CIA paying all those millions in cash to the the Afghan? We have troops there now helping to protect the Afghan's opium crops, is that what you want our combat troops to do in Afghanistan?
This week university students there were burning an effigy of Obama and yelling anti-US rants. If the future of Afghanistan rest on those students, it does not bode well for US interests, as it is obvious that they want us out of their country, as much as most of America wants us out.
Obama's timetable.....We will have them all out of there by 2014.
"This November, you get to decide the future of the Afghanistan war," Obama told some 13,000 people at a rally on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder. “We are bringing our troops home from Afghanistan. And I've set a timetable. We will have them all out of there by 2014,” Obama said in Boulder, Colo., in September 2012.
Did you believe President Obama and rely on his words that all of our troops would be out of Afghanistan? Did you think that Obama was a man of his word?
Well, seems that is not what is happening.......
Secretary of State John Kerry announced on Wednesday that the United States and Afghanistan had finalized the wording of a bilateral security agreement that would allow for a lasting American troop presence through 2024 and set the stage for billions of dollars of international assistance to keep flowing to the government in Kabul.
Do you find youself amused or perhaps more angry when Karzai jokes so easily about the taking billions and billions of more dollars from America? A country that is struggling to survive in an economy that is limping along for many, if not most Americans.
Karzai says when "we" can leave Afghanistan
Back in December 2008, PRESIDENT KARZAI said "Sir, Afghanistan is in a cooperative arrangement with the United States and the rest of the international community. The decision in Afghanistan is to continue our cooperation with the international community until we have defeated terrorism and extremism and the threat that emanates from them to us, to our neighbors, and to the rest of the -- rest of the world. And Afghanistan will not allow the international community leave it before we are fully on our feet, before we are strong enough to defend our country, before we are powerful enough to have a good economy, and before we have taken from President Bush and the next administration billions and billions of more dollars -- (laughter) -- no way that they can let you go.
That was 5 years ago, and certainly the taking of billions and billions of dollars by the Afghan government has been accomplished, but the rest on Karzai's list after all these years has not.......If we are to accomplish Karzai's goals, how many more years will it take? What are you willing to give up? Those in our government talk too easily of cutting safety nets here, even cutting social security. For many here at home the recession has not ended. How many more billions are we willing to spend before Karzai will "allow" us to leave?
With the presidental elections to come soon, will we perhaps still be dealing with the corrupt Karzai and or his brothers, or another leader just as corrupt?
KABUL (Reuters) - As President Hamid Karzai's brothers began a campaign this week to take power in war-shattered Afghanistan, they left open the prospect that the incumbent will be able to use family ties to remain in government after his second term ends next April. Despite the years of feuding that has riven the hugely wealthy clan, the Karzai brothers plan to offer the outgoing president, who is constitutionally barred from running again, a position in their government.
Will the CIA be backing the Karzai brothers in the coming election allowing Karzai to remain in power? Will they continue dropping off those millions? Will the government continue to be as corrupt?
After over 12 years of war in Afghanistan, let's go for that zero option......
Let's just get the hell out.
