What a beautiful story--Bill in Portland Maine had this in his roundup earlier, but I'd seen it yesterday and thought it deserved its own diary. Warning: Three-Hankie Video...
If the children really are our future, we're not as bad off as I thought we were. This is just so full of WIN, I can't even stand it. What a heartfelt, absolutely-better-than-grownup thing to do. If I was a parent, I'd ask my child to watch this clip and then talk about it afterward, to see if they know anyone being bullied--and how could they use a similar tactic to show solidarity and reinforce the notion that bullying is so wrong?
After the group of fifth-grade football players from Massachusetts found out their 6-year-old water boy was being teased for his attire and speech, they played great defense and showed him their support....His fifth-grade teammates found out other kids were picking on Danny for wearing a tie and jacket -- and for his speech impediment.
Instead of lashing out, though, the boys decided to use their football skills to good use and planned a great defense.
What a perfect message to send for the holiday. OMG, I'm a serious cynic and I sat here and blubbered like a baby after I watched it. Here's to hoping all our children have at least one friend like this. Happy Thanksgiving!
