On Wednesday in Annapolis, I stood with families and business owners from around the state to announce my plan to put Maryland’s economy to work for all of us. It’s time that we prioritize workers and employers alike, making our communities great places to open businesses, and also places workers are proud to be part of.
As Governor of Maryland, I will prioritize a mix of smart investments in job training and infrastructure, decreases in personal income and small business taxes, and a long-overdue increase to the minimum wage. We need to create a better business environment through streamlining our regulations and rebuilding our infrastructure. I want to boost our middle class workers by paying them more and taxing them less.
Maryland deserves an economy that works for everyone. Below is my 10-point plan to get us on track.
1. Give Marylanders Much Needed Tax Relief - We will establish a millionaire's tax on the state's top-earners, granting well-deserved and overdue tax relief for our middle and working class.
2. Institute a Living Wage – Marylanders deserve fair wage for a fair days work.
3. Strengthen Job Training - We must close the skills gap by better preparing our workers for the jobs Maryland is producing.
4. Rebuild our Schools – We can put people to work building 21st Century schools for our children.
5. Make Earned Sick Leave Available to all Maryland Workers - No worker should have to choose between their health and their livelihood.
6. Provide Small Businesses Tax Relief – Small businesses are the engine of our economy and they deserve an even playing field.
7. Grow Maryland’s Innovation Economy – Capitalizing on Maryland’s innovation means more opportunity for all.
8. Invest in Maryland’s Public Infrastructure - Our roads, bridges, ports and rail are all economic connectors and job creators.
9. Streamline our Regulatory System – Our business community needs state agencies to be a partner in their success.
10. Expand Sustainable Clean Energy Jobs - A healthy environment is good for Maryland’s economy.
