When an article starts out with side by side picture of Marx and the Pope, captioned "Separated at Birth", you know it's got to be good.
Is the Pope Getting the Catholics Ready for an Economic Revolution? (Maybe He Read Marx)
It's a rather twisted read as the author establishes various links and assumptions. indicative of a conspiracy theory essay. Follow me below the fold for a review of the article.
...you need to know something about liberation theology, a movement that originated in Pope Francis’s home region of Latin America. Liberation theology, a Catholic phenomenon centered on actively fighting economic and social oppression, is the fascinating place where Karl Marx and the Catholic Church meet.
...As Latin America saw the rise of military dictatorships in the 1960s and ‘70s, Gutiérrez called on Catholics to love their neighbor and to transform society for the better. Followers of the new liberation theology insisted on active engagement in social and economic change. They talked about alternative structures and creative, usually non-violent ways to free the poor from all forms of abuse.
Catholics, particularly in the United States and Europe, are not sure what to make of all this solidarity with the poor and anti-capitalist rhetoric.
You see, South America was the melting pot for Marxism and Catholicism and out comes the new Pope preaching all this love your neighbor stuff after being schooled in non-violent activism. I'm thinking there are links to Che Guevara, but the author didn't dig that deeply.
This is obviously the latest shot at discrediting the Pope. The 1% were previously guaranteed to go to heaven and don't appreciate criticism from this new non-European Pope.
