Teacher's Comments from Ms. Lucas:
My Students: How are we supposed to learn about classifying rocks and minerals, if we do not have rocks and minerals to look at and hold?
My students are from an amazing neighborhood school, where the teachers, students and parents work together in order to make every possible learning opportunity memorable for the students. Our parents, like us, want all children to learn beyond their potential!
My Project: My students need actual rocks and minerals as well as books and magnifying glasses to study about the earth. My students would highly benefit from having books to use their research skills AND having the actual rocks and minerals in hand to classify and identify. It is difficult to learn about something that we cannot read or see! They are so excited about learning new things and I want to continue to see their excitement and I know having hands-on materials would be amazing!
As with most schools, our school is on a tight budget and we only have so much to spend on supplies. We have the opportunity to study rocks and minerals for one of our science units, however, we do not have any rocks, minerals and only a book or two to learn about them.
