Oklahoma Republican senator Tom Coburn recently unveiled his list of government waste for 2013. His list of wasteful spending includes a mega-blimp and the mass destruction of weapons. He (or more accurately his staff) did their homework. They went through government spending with a fine-toothed comb. I agree with the goal to waste less but what caught my attention in the CNN story where I originally found the report was the attack of the "Green Ninja". According to Coburn, the Green Ninja received a grant from NASA for STEM education outreach. I looked a little deeper into the Green Ninja. The Green Ninja (www.greenninja.org) is this set of videos on climate change that are produced by a professor at San Jose state and his students along with the film students at the school. They have guides for teachers on using the videos in class and host video contests for students to prepare their own videos. Picking on the DOD for spending "$631.4 million to construct aircraft they never intend to fly" seems reasonable, but why pick on a professor and college students trying to engage kids in science. I mean, really, Coburn is just being a bully.
