Have liberals/progressives looked around the "Big Tent" of the Democratic Party lately?
I mean, sure, finding a bunch of neoliberal and MIC apologists probably wouldn't come as much of a surprise, but what about finding out that 0.2% of people in the tent are against making it illegal to discriminate in the workplace on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity?
OK, that would suck a bit, but maybe it's some statistical anomaly or something or other. After all, for all the Dems' economic insensitivities, liberals/progressives can be content that Dems as a bunch do social and do it well, right?
You'd be wrong.
See, it's not 0.2% of people in the tent who are against the ENDA bill. It's 32%. Roughly 1 in 3 people in the "Big Tent" are against a sexual/gender anti-discrimination bill. (On the other hand, Democratic senators voted unanimously in favor of the ENDA bill. Good for them.)
Last month, Gallup ran a poll on the ENDA bill: "Would you vote for or against a law that would make it illegal to discriminate in the workplace on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity?"
Republicans nationally were 58% in favor and 36% against. I remember that being mentioned on the front page.
What I discovered only today was that the "Big Tent" did only marginally better than the Republicans: Democrats nationally were 65% in favor and 32% against.
Consider me unimpressed with the fucking tent.
