The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note of any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.

Hayward, CA
Continued below the orange coprolite
My wife and I haven't been down to the Hayward shoreline in ages, so we decided it was time to get in at least a quick visit. It is a wildlife preserve based around reclaimed salt ponds connected to each other and the San Francisco Bay by channels and is also partly salt marsh. We couldn't stay long and hurried along, but still saw a decent number of birds.

Drained pond awaiting dredging because the flow regulation culverts were silting up. This pond and its islands normally serve as a breeding ground for Ducks, Coots, Forster's Terns, Canada Geese and Black Skimmers in the spring. They hope to have it ready for them.
