HealthCare.gov
handled 1 million visitors on Monday. With the assurance that the site is ready to handle an onslaught of customers, the White House is
starting a major push to focus on the benefits of the law to maximize enrollments between now and December 23. That's the new deadline for signing up to have coverage as of January 1.
The White House will take the lead in emphasizing a different benefit each day until the Dec. 23 enrollment deadline for Jan. 1 coverage. The daily message will be amplified through press events and social media by Democratic members of Congress, the Democratic National Committee, congressional campaign committees and advocacy organizations, officials said. On Wednesday, the White House and Democratic allies will focus on how Americans are paying less for preventative care under Obamacare. On Thursday, they’ll highlight that people with preexisting conditions can no longer be charged more or denied coverage. And on Friday, they’ll emphasize the slowing growth in health care costs.
”We are able to hit reset on the conversation,” said Lori Lodes, senior vice president of the liberal Center for American Progress Action Fund. “We have to make sure people understand how the law will benefit them.”
The DNC is also
launching a new site Tuesday,
TheGOPHealthCarePlan.com which focuses on the lack of a Republican plan to replace the law they've voted more than 40 times to repeal, and on the polling that shows an American public that wants to see the law fixed rather than scrapped. Democratic senators and representatives are going to be focusing on the good news stories, highlighting testimonials from constituents that are happy with their Obamacare experience. They'll also talk about what would be lost if Republicans have their way and kill the law.
All of which puts the Republicans in a corner. They're not going to have the web site to beat up on, and they're going to have to argue for taking away all these benefits that the law has created.
