Sen. Schumer (or someone on his staff, anyway) posted a diary here today saying liberal blogs are a positive force. I certainly agree with the title! But it was only made necessary by Sen Schumer's own statements.
I commented. But I think my comment makes its own diary (I have added to my comment).
It's all below the squiggle
Dear Sen Schumer
I am a NYer and a lifelong Democrat. I even worked for you in your first senate campaign (in the general election).
Yet now you come here offering a "nopology" for your silly remarks. I know many people from Wall Street. Some are good people, some are bad, like any group. But many (both good and bad) make ridiculous amounts of money, pay far too little in taxes and wield far too much influence. That they wield too much influence with Republicans is regrettable, but there is little I can do other than support Democrats to take over their seats. That they have too much influence with you is deplorable. But if you are going to be influenced by the wealthy of Wall Street, why not let it be the richest and most Wall Street of all?
As Warren Buffet said
Actually, there’s been class warfare going on for the last 20 years, and my class has won. We’re the ones that have gotten our tax rates reduced dramatically.
If you look at the 400 highest taxpayers in the United States in 1992, the first year for figures, they averaged about $40 million of [income] per person. In the most recent year, they were $227 million per person — five for one. During that period, their taxes went down from 29 percent to 21 percent of income. So, if there’s class warfare, the rich class has won
Of course, not everyone who works on Wall St. is rich. For every multimillionare there are not only the "staff" who help make the work possible (folk like receptionists, computer people, etc) and there are the people lower on the economic pole: I doubt the people who clean the offices are getting rich. You could listen to
them for a change, too.
And that is not the only place where you and I disagree.
I am Jewish by culture. I lived in Israel for 3 years and am a supporter of Israel.
However, if you think that that means I agree with your support of Netanyahu, you are sorely mistaken.
I love Israel, but I hate Netanyahu.
I love the USA, but I hate George W. Bush.
And Netanyahu is Israel's George Bush.
Furthermore, if your think that my love for Israel means I support AIPAC, you are mistaken again. Because, while I love Israel, I hate AIPAC
More generally, you get elected with huge majorities and NY gave Obama a huge majority (63-35 in 2012). Please start paying attention.
