The Daily Bucket is a place where we can post and exchange our observations about the natural happenings in our neighborhoods. Birds, bugs, blossoms and more - each notation is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the natural patterns that are unwinding around us.
Several years back we found an unusual nest in a trellis below our deck rail. It was spring and the tenant had left the previous fall. The nest was spherical with the entryway on the side. The trellis boards are 1X2s, so the opening was about 1.5 inches in diameter. We thought a spherical nest was pretty unusual (at least here in Iowa) and wondered what kind of bird might build this...
