The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, fish, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located.
Tallahassee, FL. This is going to be a pretty spartan bucket as I've been busy at work the last few days. Hopefully commenters will have more to add.
Unseasonably chilly here in north Florida. In the mid-30s when I got up this AM and only in the mid-40s now at noon. Mixed cloud and sun with a brisk breeze. Down around or slightly below freezing the next two nights. With a forecast high of 50 this would be a cold day in the dead of winter here, let alone in March. I'll note that I have swum in both the gulf and our pool in March in the past. Doubtful that will happen this year.
Flowering dogwood are starting to bloom. They appeared to be getting started several days ago and have gone into suspended animation with the cold weather.
Some trees are leafing out but it still looks a bit wintery here. I realize that in more northern areas spring is several weeks off (I have spent most of my life well to the north of where I live now) but normally here early March is definitely spring.
Harriers are still around and tree swallows are abundant over the lake. Not sure what the swallows are finding to eat on a cold breezy day like this. One Forster's Tern was seen and a handful of coots in the distance. Otherwise the lake is still bereft of water birds.
This afternoon I plan to check out the flooding on the Ochlockonee River and if the wind dies down maybe take a brief kayak tower of my end of Lake Jackson.
That's it for me, please let us know what is going on in your neck of the woods.
