No Corporation Is An Island
after John Donne, as modified by Mr Justice Scalia
No corporation is an island,
Entire of itself.
Each is a piece of our landholdings,
A part of the sacredness of property.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
America is the less.
As well as if a beachfront gated community were.
As well as if a mansion of thine own
Or of thine friend's were.
Each corporation's bankruptcy diminishes me,
For I am involved in corporationkind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bill comes,
It comes for thee.
