I often talk about my city here. How in an election we voted 57% for McCain, yet we voted 63% to raise our taxes to build a new $60M high school (this is Illinois BTW). How another time we voted to raise taxes, I kid you not, to build parks. I don't live in a large city. I don't live in a rich city. I don't live in the burbs. Heck I saw a report the other day where there isn't a single home worth more than $300,000 in my town. But I will never forget what our city manager said at a town hall meeting years ago:
Everybody likes nice things. Well you have to pay for them.
A few happy thoughts below the fold.
We voted on Tuesday to increase our taxes again. Building a new $9M primary school. I'd argue what we have now is kind of "neat" but as a teacher told me "we are going to build the best school in the world."
Ponder that for a few ......
My town literally wants to have the best schools in the world. They are not joking around. They are just trying hard to do it, and if our test scores (oh how I hate them) are any clue, we're about the best of the best.
