The vote was 54-46. We won the vote. We have the majority. 88-92 percent of the public supports background checks.
The only caveat -- a big one, but it doesn't change the fact that we have a good majority of the Senate and an overwhelming majority of the public -- is the anti-democratic artifice known as the fillibuster. If Harry Reid had taken that down, we would be celebrating today.
In other words, lose the fillibuster and we win. We are blocked, but we did not lose the majority.
