It looks like the talking points that go out through the gundamentalist community across the US, get spread by groups like Ammoland.com that maintain blogs, correspondents and lobbying efforts. They stoke each other up and develop framing for arguments.
The opposition to any gun regulation that has developed is due to the people who push the various talking points that are getting out there, which then turn into lots of emails and calls into Congressional offices. Ammoland seems to be a window on this world, and may be a prime source of this psychology.
Best to know what the messages that are going out against gun safety regulation are. I recommend subscribing to this newsletter:

In the current issues we see that the targets are legislators in Colorado and Connecticut where elected leaders are insanely laughing as they put the Constitution into the shredder, if you accept the Ammoland way of looking at it.
Judging from the blog posts, a lot of people do and they don't necessarily bother to critique the logic of the reasoning involved. The more full of factual errors and full of holes and swiss cheese-like it is, the better. Foaming at the mouth intensity trumps responsible efforts to face reality as it is.
In reading this, and scanning through the news of what has been going on lately, I wonder if we are looking at a very dark movement in American culture that does not just involve suburbanites who like to collect finely crafted specimen weapons.
Are James Holmes or Jared Loughner just simply representatives of a world inside their own heads or did they get their ideas about conflict resolution and how to see issues in society such as interdependence vs individual hegemony from within a culture we should be more concerned about? Perhaps that is what this gun regulation debate is revealing.
The Aryan brotherhood types are bound to be expressing their muscle bound thinking in this mix and it would seem that they basically want no laws at all. They are not in favor of law enforcement and when they talk about less government, they mean fewer cops that might get too interested in what they might be doing.
This bears a real serious look and for this reason, I recommend really watching the content that comes across on this and other websites and newsletters.
