19 hurt at New Orleans Mother's Day parade shooting
AP -- May 13, 2013
NEW ORLEANS: Gunmen opened fire on dozens of people marching in a Mother's Day neighborhood parade in New Orleans on Sunday, wounding at least 19, including two children, police said.
FBI spokeswoman Mary Beth Romig said federal investigators have no indication that the shooting was an act of terrorism.
"It's strictly an act of street violence in New Orleans," she said. The southern city has one of the highest violent crime rates in the U.S.

Well thank goodness it wasn't "terrorism" -- and just another case of
good old fashioned American "street violence."
You know the kind of stuff that makes the NRA coffers ring -- thanks to the amped-up good old fashioned American "fear on steroids," they will be sure to promote, at their earliest convenience ...
Well it's time for some early predictions about what will NRA's Wayne LaPierre will soon say about this tragic New Orleans Mother's Day parade shooting?
Well perhaps his rhetorical track record on the Newtown Shooting will give us some clues who he will blame for just another run-of-the-mill random American shooting -- on Mother's Day!

The truth is that our society is populated by an unknown number of genuine monsters — people so deranged, so evil, so possessed by voices and driven by demons that no sane person can possibly ever comprehend them. They walk among us every day. And does anybody really believe that the next Adam Lanza isn't planning his attack on a school he's already identified at this very moment?
How many more copycats are waiting in the wings for their moment of fame — from a national media machine that rewards them with the wall-to-wall attention and sense of identity that they crave — while provoking others to try to make their mark?
A dozen more killers? A hundred? More? [...]
And here's another dirty little truth that the media try their best to conceal: There exists in this country a callous, corrupt and corrupting shadow industry that sells, and sows, violence against its own people.
[...]
As parents, we do everything we can to keep our children safe. It is now time for us to assume responsibility for their safety at school. The only way to stop a monster from killing our kids is to be personally involved and invested in a plan of absolute protection. The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
[...]
OK, so here's my semi-serious prediction, for NRA's Wayne LaPierre eventual New Orleans shooting statement (when the time is right in the news-cycle, of course.)
LaPierre:
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun at a Mother's Day parade, is to arm more Mothers with guns; and they might as well arm their kids too, while they're at it. Because you never know how many 'bad guys' with automatic magazines are ever going to show up at public events, to exercise their NRA-enabled rights.
PS. And universal background checks won't help either -- because gun show dealers need to be able to move their wares -- unimpeded. Afterall that's the good old fashioned American way, too.
The end. Period. End of statement. The NRA will not be taking any questions, at this time.
Or ever.
