Received this e-mail today from State Senator Barbara Buono (D. NJ) who is running against incumbent Governor Chris Christie (R. NJ) in this year's election:
These past few months all across the country unspeakable tragedies involving gun violence have taken place. From the movie theater in Aurora to the elementary school in Newtown, these were tragedies that didn't have to happen.
New Jersey families deserve to be safe, and as governor, I have a plan that will help protect our families from gun violence. From reducing the size of magazines to universal background checks, these are some common sense measures that our current governor has failed to lead on. I need your help to make sure the governor knows we demand action on gun violence.
Can you click here and add your name to tell Governor Christie it's time for action?

Guns shouldn't be in the hands of violent criminals - that's why it's so outrageous that the governor has refused to even acknowledge that there is a loop hole when it comes to private gun sales. This is just wrong. We need you to help us send Governor Christie a message he can't help but listen to.
Add your name: demand action on gun violence:

By the way, New Jersey Democrats argue that if Buono is elected Governor, they can finally pass marriage equality:
http://www.nj.com/...
New Jersey Democrats are missing an opportunity to achieve two of their presumed objectives this year, says Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Trenton).
One is to add New Jersey to the fast-growing list of states where same-sex couples are allowed to marry. Rhode Island and Delaware approved marriage equality in the past two weeks, leaving our reputedly progressive state and Pennsylvania the only two in a procession of nine states reaching from the Canadian border to the Potomac River, plus the District of Columbia, that withhold from gay couples the equal protection of the law guaranteed by the 14th Amendment and the right to the pursuit of happiness that Jefferson called “unalienable.”
The other objective cited by Gusciora is to improve the chances of the Democrats’ underdog candidate for governor, Sen. Barbara Buono, against incumbent Gov. Chris Christie in the November election, and reduce the possibility of a Christie landslide that would carry a Republican majority into next year’s Legislature.
The assemblyman believes these party goals could be attained if the Democratic leaders of the Assembly and Senate agree to put two additional issues on the November ballot: same-sex marriage — he has sponsored a bill to do this — and a bond issue or dedicated tax to replenish the state’s depleted open-space acquisition fund.
Those questions, plus one the Legislature already has approved for a November vote, automatic minimum-wage increases tied to the cost of living, would add up to a “home run” that would “bring out our [Democratic] base on Election Day,” Gusciora said.
A Quinnipiac poll shows New Jerseyans support same-sex marriage by 64 percent to 30 percent, while the backing soars to 80 percent among voting-age residents under 34.
“An opportunity to vote for it would draw college kids, our natural constituency, in large numbers,” he said. - The Times, 5/13/13
