Received this e-mail from Governor Mark Dayton (D. MN) regarding marriage equality in Minnesota:
When Minnesota’s voters went to the polls last November, they sent a clear message: making same-sex marriage unconstitutional was wrong.
We can go further, making sure no one is denied the basic right to marry, simply because of who they are. I believe all of us should have the freedom to marry legally the person we love.
We’re close. Lawmakers in the Minnesota House and Senate are at work crafting legislation. But our opponents won’t let go. They’re targeting legislators with harsh mailings, pressuring them to vote no. They’re threatening to go after members who vote “yes” in the coming elections.
If we’re going to get this historic legislation passed, we need our voices to ring even louder. Urge lawmakers in St. Paul to follow their consciences and pass the freedom to marry.

When it comes to marriage, your relatives, friends and neighbors who are part of same-sex couples – maybe you, yourself – deserve to be treated fairly under the law.
We cannot legislate love. Committed, same-sex Minnesota couples deserve to make their own decisions for their own families. It’s a simple, yet profound ideal.
Minnesotans voted against a constitutional ban – they took the first step. It’s time for the legislature to take the next one. Will you help me send that message?

Thank you,

By the way, recent polling shows that Minnesota is ready for marriage equality:

Just two months after a poll suggesting Minnesotans weren’t quite ready for marriage equality, it looks like the state may be heading in a more progressive direction.
According to a poll conducted by KSTP/Survey USA, a majority of Minnesota voters are in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage for the first time in history.
The poll asked 500 Minnesota voters from different districts if “the Minnesota state law that defines marriage as between one man and one woman should be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry?”
Of those surveyed, 51% of Minnesotans favored the change in legislation while 47% were still opposed, leaving two percent undecided. Earlier this year, a different poll suggested 53% of Minnesotans were still in favor of the discriminatory law. - Queerty, 4/29/13
