Welcome to Awards Edition Plus your one-stop snark shop Cheers and Jeers placeholder. I'm saving most of the diary I had drafted for another time in order to bring you this update on Toronto Mayor Rob Ford (I'm on this like a pitbull on a grandmother):
One of the things at question over whether or not the Mayor actually smoked crack is the video in question, which was made by one of his drug dealers but has only been offered for sale. It's political extortion, but like the Bush Administration, it's a train wreck you gotta watch. Well Gawker, where the story broke, has been raising the money to buy it. Have a look at this:
The U.S.-based website Gawker hit its goal Monday of raising the $200,000 needed to purchase a video that allegedly captured Mayor Rob Ford smoking what appears to be crack cocaine.
“Well, what do you know?” Gawker editor John Cook tweeted after the goal was met with 11 hours to spare.
As of Monday evening, the crowdfunding effort dubbed “Crackstarter” had more than 8,000 donors chipping in. Perks ranged from an ebook of Ford’s “most outrageous statements and lowest moments” for a $5 donation to the actual iPhone that was used to record the video for $10,000.
Mike Pultz, 33, from Toronto was one of the last people to donate to the campaign, helping to push Gawker over its $200,000 goal.
The rest of the article is
here.
Something that just gets curiouser and curiouser demands its update and derailment of the boring diary about drones that commonmass thinks he wanted to write.
