Received this e-mail today from Senator Tom Udall (D. NM) regarding the Supreme Court's decision on Citizens United:
My uncle Mo, who served in the House for many years, used to say "Reform is not for the short-winded." I think our fight against Citizens United is proving that.
That Supreme Court decision unleashed a torrent of special interest spending into our democratic process. The wealthy and powerful of this nation love Citizens United because it allows them to spend money getting their allies elected, with no public disclosure.
Getting Congress to take action against that kind of power isn't easy. And the only way it will happen is with a continuous, forceful shove from grassroots supporters like you.
The constitutional amendment I'm fighting to pass would help us limit the damage that Citizens United is doing to our democracy, and stem the tide of special interest money in our elections. Help me push this effort downfield -- sign the petition today.

Special interest groups spent $1.1 billion in 2012 on attack ads, mailers, field operations and phone calls -- all without the American people knowing who or what entity was trying to influence their votes.
Elections in this country are supposed to be about ideas. But in our media environment today, it costs money to get ideas out there. And thanks to Citizens United, the ideas we generally hear are the ones the special interest groups decide to plaster on every television.
We need to take our elections back. The only way we're going to be able to change the way Washington works is if we get rid of the corruption in the process we use to elect our representatives.
I still need you on my side. Call for an end to Citizens United. Sign the petition today.

Uncle Mo was right -- it's not easy to get real reform. But I know we’re ready to fight as long as it takes to see the end of Citizens United.
Thank you for fighting with me.
Cheers.
Tom
