36 Organizations, Community, Faith, Labor Leaders Will Urge Senator Moran to Stand with Immigrant Families
Kansas City, KS.-- This Saturday, 36 organizations and over 700 community, faith and labor leaders will travel to Kansas City for a People’s Town Hall on Immigration Reform, the largest event of it’s kind in Kansas history. Leaders are hosting this public meeting to ask Kansas elected officials, especially Senator Jerry Moran, to support comprehensive immigration reform and create a pathway to citizenship for all 11 million people currently undocumented in the US.
This week, the Senate began debating and amending S. 744, the comprehensive immigration reform bill. Kansas Senator Jerry Moran has yet to take a public stance for or against this immigration reform bill. He is particularly important considering his leadership position as the Chair of the Republican National Senatorial Committee.
A recent poll released by New American Economy showed that there is overwhelming bipartisan support for CIR in Kansas. This poll indicated that 72% of likely voters support immigration reform and 58% of Kansans would more than likely vote for an elected official who votes for a path to citizenship.
A vote is expected at the end of the month. Leaders want to remind our legislators that this issue is about more than just numbers. This is an issue about thousands of families that are separated on a daily basis and about our economy.
