In the day and a half since we launched our Wendy Davis for Governor draft campaign, we have collectively gathered
13,500 signatures in support while
nearly 800 of you have
raised $22,000 for the effort.
She's already said she's open to running if she can get wide support, Gov. Rick Perry is attacking her as if she's already his gubernatorial opponent, and her shoes have become an internet sensation.
Davis has been doing this sort of thing for a long time. The Daily Show saluted her efforts, and really, if you haven't watched the video at the top of this post, do so.
And if Wendy Davis hasn't gotten enough attention, Perry just gifted her with a second shot of national attention by calling for a new special session next week to try and pass his abortion restrictions. Davis took most people by surprise this week. That won't be the case next week.
She's ready for the fight. Heck, I get the sense that she's eager for it. Wouldn't she be great in the Texas governor's mansion, and later on, the U.S. Senate or even higher? Sign the petition and leave her an encouraging message. We'll pass all of those on to her. Then drop her a few bucks if you can, because taking this kind of risk won't come cheap.
Demographics will turn Texas blue by 2024. Hillary Clinton will push that up to 2016. And Wendy Davis? She's accelerating that process by another two years. Because really, who wants to wait any longer?
1:09 PM PT: Quick update: as of 1 pm PT, we are now up to 19,319 petition signatures, 921 donors, and over $40,000 raised.
