For several months now, the Michigan GOP has been hemming and hawing about who's going to take on MI-14 Representative Gary Peters to replace U.S. Senator Carl Levin next year.
Here's a video capture of the MI GOP's backroom discussions since Levin announced his retirement:
Well, today it seems that they've found their candidate--Terri Lynn Land:
Terri Lynn Land is seeking Republican nomination for U.S. Senate
Former Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land will run for the Republican nomination to replace Democrat Carl Levin in the U.S. Senate.
Land is the first Republican to say she is pursuing a bid for the seat. U.S. Rep Mike Rogers, R-Brighton, U.S. Rep Justin Amash, R-Cascade Township, have both said they are considering to run, but have not commented further.
Now, on the surface, Land would appear to be a pretty good get for the GOP--she's a former 2-term Secretary of State, so she's capable of winning state-wide races, and the SoS always has a built-in name recognition advantage because they get to slap their name on every piece of official "clerical" documentation for years on the public dime.
On the other hand, there's stuff like this.
Anyway, Land is about the best that the MI-GOP can hope for in this race, so I guess they should be pretty happy that she's jumped in.
Meanwhile, Gary Peters can use a bit of love.
