A politcal poem
Help my unbelief
I do not believe that hunger can ever be justified.
I do not believe that peace is a pipe-dream.
I do not believe that prosperity is only for the few.
I do not believe that we cannot change ourselves and our world for the better.
I do not believe that waiting for some magical being to help us is a wise choice.
I do not believe that kindness is ever wasted.
I do not believe that my wife, my daughters or my granddaughter should be silenced or subservient.
A personal poem
Sweet corn and fireflies
The wheat flows in waves, in golden sunlit ripples.
The long light of dusk blunts July's fire.
The green apples fade gray into shadows.
Fireflies court and spark indifferent to poker on the screen porch.
Dew coated beer bottles and no-peek baseball for pennies,
No card is as wild as the raccoon in the sweetcorn patch.
