The USA Today headline reads: Gov. Christie sets Oct. 16 special Senate election. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is tasked with replacing recently deceased Democratic U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg with a qualified replacement for the U.S. Senate. After serving five terms as a U.S. Senator, it's obvious that Lautenberg was a revered U.S. Senator. It's also obvious that New Jersey voters are looking for a Democratic replacement. This will be a delicate dance for Christie. Red Governor in a Blue state, reinventing himself physically and cosmetically to perhaps launch a 2016 run for the presidency. However, if he appoints a Democrat, he'll pay hell with his party. Not his N.J. base, because that would be a Democratic base due to it being a Blue state. It's the party on a national level he has to pander to if he's serious about a 2016 run. If he chooses a Republican in his Blue state does he risk losing his Governorship since he's up in November, just one month after the scheduled election. If he chooses a Democrat, will he be forgiven by 2015, in order to prepare for a vigorous 2016 primary run? Christie has shown he has the chutzpah to defy his critics and surprise his allies. Stay tuned! Christie's just getting started.
