Long ago, I vowed to return back to writing when I felt I had something unique to share. It's finally come - and my political experience couldn't be any better.
All the way back in 2011, I wrote a post about the "fun times" we had at DKos 4.0. It was nothing more than a filler piece and some humor. Yet it was the last post I've written here for over 2 years.
When I first came here, I tried to be important. I tried to write stuff that would get on the rec list - get people interested, engaged, and fired up. Looking back, I realize it really wasn't my thing - I'm still a good writer, but my subjects didn't always fit me. So I took a sabbatical from writing on here - although I still read the site every day.
Why have I decided to return after all this time? Well, the past year has been a search for summer internships - the old tradition of all those excited poli sci students. I got to meet and get interviewed by several Congressional offices - most notably Sherrod Brown and Matt Cartwright. Ultimately, the limited space in those offices meant I was not selected.
However, it's great to say that I finished my first week as an intern for the Summit County Democratic Party. Right now, we've been working on examining petitions for the September primaries and preparing for our annual FDR dinner on the 30th. If you're a NE Ohio Democrat, we'd love to see you there - and so would our great slate of elected officials.
We also raised almost 2,000 dollars for the Summit County Young Democrats at Thursday's fundraiser, featuring such esteemed guests like City Councilwoman Margo Sommerville, Barberton mayor Bill Judge, and municipal court candidates Gertrude Wilms and Jon Oldham. Summit County has a great future in our many Democratic candidates - I can't wait to help them win in November.
So finally, this space has a purpose. I'll be giving a lot more updates on the business of the SCDP and the intern experience. I think you will enjoy reading this diary - I sure as hell know I will.
