Received this e-mail today from Senator Tom Udall (D. NM) regarding filibuster reform:
Once again, abuse of the filibuster is threatening to grind Washington to a standstill.
Filibusters were once a rare occurrence. Not anymore. Today, we are seeing unprecedented obstructionism -- a situation in which even confirmations of fully qualified individuals require a Senate supermajority.
It’s ridiculous that in an institution that has been called the greatest deliberative body in the world, we can’t get anything done. The rules are clearly broken. It’s time we fixed them.
We’ve got a window of opportunity to turn up the pressure for filibuster reform. Click here to add your name to our petition today:

Today’s filibusters are not like Jimmy Stewart from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington anymore. Filibusters today are more like silent movies. Any Senator can hold up business, no explanation necessary.
New Mexico’s families deserve better than gridlock – they deserve action. And when the rules are preventing that action, they need to be changed.
I want to get Washington working again -- and I need your support. Sign the petition calling for filibuster reform:

I’ve fought for reform since I got to the Senate. And I have no intention of letting up now.
Thank you for continuing the fight with me.
Cheers.
Tom Udall
