Good morning!
This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we try to get together every Saturday morning around eleven, and then drift in and out throughout the day. We hope this group serves to reinvigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who these people are that we stand with, work with, and share with in the political process. We hope, through this community, that we can do a better job of leveraging our orange passion for progressive politics to help elect more and better Democrats.
If you would like to host a weekly open thread, please let us know.
Our next meetup is ... Today!!! We'll be getting started around 1:00 or so at the Bywater, and, weather permitting, we'll be outside around the grill area.
If you haven't been to the Bywater before, it is a private club; if you are not a member, just let them know that you are a guest of Randall (they know we're coming). We will be outside by the river; there are some grills there, and folks are planning to bring charcoal for grilling, and various foods, veggies, snacks, plates and utensils, etc. Since the Bywater sells alcohol, please don't bring your own alcohol. Don't forget a hat to protect from the sun (or the rain). Randall reminded me that the outdoor porch area is covered and is big enough to provide shelter in case of a scattered afternoon shower.
We're expecting somewhere between one and two dozen kossacks, plus various family members and guests. At least a few will be traveling distances of two to four hours to get here. So with visitors coming to see us from that far away, if you have any clean clothes, you might want to consider wearing them; if not, a good airing out on the front porch clothes line for about an hour before you leave should suffice.
And weather permitting, we hope to be doing some tie dying today; so bring your shirts and dresses. I'm guessing there may still be some shirts available from the last meetup. I'm looking forward to my new DKos Asheville hippie clothes.

There are two Moral Mondays left in Raleigh; July 22 and then the big final, everyone returning, July 29. If you've been reading the DKos Asheville diaries recently, you know that I highly recommend making the trip if you haven't already. It will do your soul a lot of good to be with so many North Carolina progressives, all sharing the same passion for stopping the disastrous policies of our Republican government.
And then the following week, Monday August 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 at Pack Square Park in Asheville, is Mountain Moral Monday. Put it on your calendar now; and circle it in red. The folks planning this event expect a big turnout; and this opportunity to stand up as one here in Western North Carolina should not be missed.
If you can't make it to the meetup today, because you're stuck in an airport lounge in Moscow, enjoy your day! Otherwise, we'll see you in just a little while.
