"It’s a floor wax". "It's a dessert topping". "It’s a floor wax!" It's a dessert topping!" "Hey hold on you two, it’s a floor wax and a dessert topping!"
I've been trying to follow the case of Mr. Snowden and the "talk" on Daily Kos. All I’m reading is he's a hero, or he’s a traitor. "I'm right, you're wrong". "You're a troll". "No you are". "HR! HR!" And honestly this discussion is going absolutely nowhere and makes me physically nauseous. The idea of civil discussion is virtually non-existant. If the purpose of this website is to elect better people for office and help make this country better place, this discussion certainly has not helped. All it’s been has been one pie fight after another, and after reading so much of this back-and-forth I feel sticky from all the pie that has being thrown. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. That's part of what a democracy is. But it's a hell of a lot more than just saying I'm right you’re wrong nah nah nah.
There's a lot of stuff going on in the world right now. Egypt is on the verge of another revolution. North Carolina is trying to ram through an anti-abortion measure when no one is looking. Texas is about to run roughshod over at citizens with its own abortion measures and so is Ohio. The president has to make a decision on the XL Pipeline. These are things we can actually stand up and try to change. From what I can tell, screaming about Eric Snowden to other Kosacks isn't going to do a damn thing. Unless you can come up with some mindblowing position that's going to change someone's mind, then in my opinion you're just here to throw pies. That's not why I came to DK. Honestly it's getting to the point where I come for David Nir's excellent Election Digest because that's one of the few places where I feel I can make a difference, no matter how small, and that's it. If I want people yelling and screaming at each other without listening, I can wait till Crossfire comes back to CNN. I don't need to spend time here.
I'm not the HR police, nor do I have any intention of doing so. I want to do things for the public good, for our country, for our world. But all this garbage being thrown around has to stop. I suggest before anyone does another posting on the topic, I suggest stop, breathe, actually take the time to think what you're posting. Are you doing this to shed some light on the subject or is this just going to be another rant that's been posted over and over but it's MY rant so I think it's justified? I know it sounds corny to ask if we all just can't get along. I think we're all on the same team here. And it's okay to disagree. You can simply say I disagree with your opinion, state your case without insulting someone, and leave it be. And you don't lose the argument because you didn't get the last post in. It's like cyber road rage. Sometimes the right thing to do is walk away. And if things don't get better here, I might just do that.
Just my opinion. Your milage may vary.
