Good morning!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we have a (mostly) finished diary schedule. If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
So, this year my other half is participating in Camp NaNoWriMo. What is Camp NaNoWriMo?
From the website:
Ever dream of writing your novel in a month other than November? Risky enough to stoke the flames of your inner campfire? Willing to forge rugged new paths through the wilderness of creativity? Daring enough to step foot in a rustic cabin or pitch The Blue Tent of Whoa™? Then join The Office of Letters and Light at Camp NaNoWriMo!
Based on November’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), Camp NaNoWriMo provides the online support, tracking tools, and hard deadline to help you write the rough draft of your novel in a month… other than November!
Camp NaNoWriMo was established in 2011 as a project of the Office of Letters and Light, the parent 501(c)(3) nonprofit to National Novel Writing Month and the Young Writers Program. 2013 Camp NaNoWriMo sessions will take place in April and July.
What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month’s time.
Who: You! We can’t do this unless we have some other people trying it as well. Let’s write laughably awful yet lengthy prose together.
Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era’s most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties.
He's done the November event for several years, but November always turns out to be an issue. We're actively home schooling both kids in November. Then there's Thanksgiving, setting up the Christmas Tree, and getting shopping done. Add in that he almost always ends up sick with Bronchitis in November (or I do) and it becomes almost impossible. Last year he was pushing himself to stay up and write despite bronchitis and I had to put my foot down, he was just stressing himself out and making himself sicker.
So this year he's trying in July instead. He's already made a big dent his goal of 50,000 words.. 8,257 in the first three days (I don't have Thursday's totals yet as of this writing). He's got a very interesting premise, and he has been doing a lot of research on it, including talking to his Uncle (a retired cop) a friend who is a Marine, and his cousin who is 'techy'.
FloridaSNDad's Flyleaf for his novel is HERE
We're really hoping he can get the novel at least mostly finished this month, then finish it off, polish it up, and (crosses fingers toes and eyes) get it published.
So what interesting projects do you have going for the summer?
