It is one thing when a conservative Republican doesn't know of - or acknowledge - the fierce battles black people have had to wage to get the right the vote.
I submit that it is just downright nauseating when a high profile "journalist" who professes to be a liberal doesn't appear to know or understand that history.
This morning, Joe Scarborough went after those who have dared to organize against the GOP's efforts to suppress the vote. How dare they call it racist, he demanded to know.
"You read the New York Times, and you read these other media outlets that, again, make politicians in North Carolina and Texas sound racist for just saying, 'Hey, you're going to need a picture ID to prove you are who you are,'" the conservative Republican said on his MSNBC "Morning Joe" program. "I'm reading all of these stories that talk about, basically, you're putting a white hood over the governor of North Carolina, putting a white hood over the entire Texas legislature," Scarborough continued, referencing some depictions of Republican lawmakers as if they were members of the Ku Klux Klan.
While the conservative Joe Scarborough ranted and raved about this horrible injustice of mischaracterization, the liberal Mika was caught vigorously nodding her head and as soon as the man allowed her a word in edgewise she added her two cents:
"Most Americans would think it's not racist to ask somebody to just have a picture ID. I think that this is a really healthy discussion that has been had out in the media in a completely one-sided way. And your side of it is a fair argument," she said, adding: "No one goes there because it's not PC."

Uh? You are forgiven if you mistook that for a quote from the half-Governor from Alaska, Sarah Palin. No, that was our own ally, the liberal counterbalance to Joe Scarborough.
This from her Wiki page:
Mika Emilie Leonia Brzezinski is a liberal American television host and journalist. Brzezinski co-hosts MSNBC's weekday morning broadcast Morning Joe with former Republican representative Joe Scarborough.
I don't know about you, but I would have expected that Mika to take the time out to know about the issues which are important to liberals. I would have expected that she'd know about the Moral Monday Movement and The Dream Defenders and their stated missions. Surely there was a production meeting and she was at least informed about the topics to be discussed?
For whatever reason, the liberal representative on the Morning Joe Show does not know why we are angry at the Republicans attempt to fix an unbroken system. The liberal representative doesn't know that after POB's win in 2008, the GOP, under the guise of preventing voter fraud, began a concerted, coordinated attempt to disenfranchise groups within the Obama coalition...especially minority voters.
After the 2010 election, in more than a dozen states Republicans passed voting restrictions aimed at reducing the turnout of Obama’s “coalition of the ascendant”—young voters, African-Americans and Hispanics. The strategy didn’t work as intended. Ten major restrictive voting laws were blocked in court over the past year, and turnout among young, black and Latino voters increased as a share of the electorate in 2012 compared with 2008.
From
Colin Powell
"You can say what you like, but there is no voter fraud," Powell said. "How can it be widespread and undetected? We want everybody to vote,’ and make it easier to vote and give them a reason to vote for the party, [whereas] not to find ways to keep them from voting at all "
According to
Mother Jones, the new law, signed Monday by North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory:
prohibits same-day registration, ends pre-registration for 16- and 17-year-olds, eliminates one week of early voting, prevents counties from extending voting hours due to long lines (often caused by cuts in early voting) or other extraordinary circumstances, scratches college ID cards and other forms of identification from the very short list of acceptable state-issued photo IDs, and outlaws certain types of voter registration drives. , requires voters to show government-issued ID cards. It also shortens early voting by a week; ends same-day registration; increases the number of poll observers who can challenge a voter’s eligibility, and eliminates popular preregistration initiatives for high school students.
It's quite possibly the most restrictive voter ID bill in recent years, says Denise Leiberman, senior attorney for Advancement Project, a nonprofit civil rights organization.
If you agree with me that these are facts that anybody claiming to be a liberal should know, please join me in sending bits of information to MSNBC and its morning anchors.
