Obama emphasizes U.S. commitment to Syrian rebels in Saudi call
The headline above is hard to believe, but it is real. And the question is why?
The civil war in Syria is a real tragedy with many innocent civilians getting killed. In the news there is always talk about the crimes of the Assad regime, but much less talk about the crimes of the rebels, many of whom, if not most of them, are extremist jihadists. Now the United Nations is investigating horrific crimes by them:

From the link above:
United Nations experts are investigating allegations that rebels killed dozens of Syrian soldiers in a village near Aleppo after they captured it from government troops, an incident that could amount to a war crime, the world body's human rights chief said Friday.

Syrian rebels face UN investigation over Aleppo footage
Navi Pillay said that images of the killings in Khan al-Assal in July were deeply shocking, and highlighted yet again the need to ensure those responsible for violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law on all sides are made to account for their crimes.
And, of course, the question remains why did the Obama administration authorized weapons assistance for the rebels in Syria? Why get involved in Syria at all? Both sides of that civil war are terrible. Unfortunately though, that is not the way this administration sees the issue:
Obama emphasizes U.S. commitment to Syrian rebels in Saudi call
President Barack Obama told Saudi Arabia's king on Friday that he is committed to providing U.S. support to Syrian rebels who have been waiting for shipments of light arms that have been stalled in Washington.
Why? The support to the Saudis and the Saudi backed rebels is incomprehensible. It is obviously another neoconservative view of the world that makes no sense. In the same way the invasion of Iraq by Bush made no sense
