Longtime marriage equality advocate and LGBT ally Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (D. PA-13), who is running for Governor next year, is slamming her opponent, the incompetent and out-of touch Governor Tom Corbett (R. PA), for defending Pennsylvania's discriminatory same-sex marriage ban:
I was outraged when I saw that Tom Corbett was abusing his role as our Governor to pursue his extreme agenda by denying loving and committed same-sex couples full marriage rights.
The Governor is wasting our money and discriminating against people on the basis of who they love. The Governor's attorneys went as far as comparing gay and lesbian couples to "12-year-olds" when arguing they cannot be married under state law.
This is wrong. We've got to stand up and demand that he stop defending this discriminatory law. Can you click here and automatically sign our petition today?

When we work together we can accomplish so much. As a longtime supporter of marriage equality, I know It's not right for someone to be discriminated against because of who they love. It's even worse that Governor Corbett is wasting our tax payer dollars on defending this law instead of investing in education, infrastructure, or dozens of other projects that would dramatically help all Pennsylvanians. I can't do it alone. I need your help to stand up and demand that Governor Corbett stop defending this law.
Stand with me and loving couples, click here and sign today.

By the way, Schwartz picked up a big endorsement today:

One of the keys in the Democratic gubernatorial race will be who best can appeal to voters in Western Pa, as all the candidates so far are from out east. Along those lines Allyson Schwartz picked up a nice endorsement today from the United Mine Workers, which has a sizable presence in this part of the state, and agreed to back her late last week.
From a press release from Schwartz's campaign:
"We have worked with Allyson for years, and she has always stood up for working men and women. That's why we enthusiastically support her for Governor of Pennsylvania. Of all the candidates running, she stands out. She will bring effective leadership back to Harrisburg and will stand up for our members in western Pennsylvania and across the Commonwealth," said Ed Yankovich UMWA International District 2 Vice President. - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, 9/10/13
