The baby sweater is still in pieces. I am taking a
class at my local yarn store,
Blazing Needles, and next Tuesday night is for learning to put the pieces together. 3-needle bindoff, parallel mattress stitch, and perpendicular mattress stitch.
Don't they look sad, all curled up with their ends (for sewing up or weaving in) and live stitches held on purple waste yarn? I have never blocked such a complicated piece before, only hats and scarves, and the blocking has been a production. I am only half-way through though. Here is a picture of the back, I think, soaking:
In a week, I hope to have my baby sweater assembled. The back and two fronts are drying, and I have just a few rows left on the second sleeve, after which I will soak and block the two sleeves together. Threading the blocking wires between the stitches is every bit as tedious as I anticipated.
I finished a new bracelet last weekend. It is the shop's pattern for August, and I decided to not make the September pattern. I have SIX, 6, SIX unfinished beading projects. I was shocked when I realized how many there were. I have beads and patterns for 5, and I have my semi-abandoned February lacey-netting heart project. AAAUUUGGGHHH!
This design features Duo beads at the narrow point of the chevron to hold everything together. Two colors of 11-seed beads, one for the sides of the chevron, and the other to nest in the middle. 3m crystals and 15-seed beads on the ends. It was a slow start for me, I think there was a specific right-handed direction I had to work around. Once I sat down and finished a couple on my second session with it, I just powered through to the end. #yay for me. I have hardly taken it off since. It's so pale and delicate and low-contrast, rather a change for me. It looks almost bridal, the way the colors work together.
I am preparing to sew some pillowcases. I have my feature fabrics and am trying to find the right band fabric. Pillowcase tutorial are my directions. They are a nice break from curtains.
I learned to make caramel sauce. The big secret is to stop stirring and do NOT stir again until you add the butter. I am a compulsive stirrer and I utterly destroyed the first batch. My daughter thought I was very funny for taking a photo of the pan of sugar. Also, I love my Calphalon pan. She was a workhorse yesterday.
