Too bad for Issa that she's still got this football helmet
Politico:
Rep. Darrell Issa says the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee can “certainly” call back former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to testify on Benghazi.
“We can certainly have Mrs. Clinton back; our view is that we need to get to the facts,” Issa (R-Calif.) told Fox News in a clip that aired Wednesday.
Of course, after Issa went off the air, his staff told Politico that there weren't actually any plans to call Clinton back to testify:
However, a spokesperson for Issa said the chairman was not saying that calling Clinton back “will be happening.”
“He did not say he will or that it will be happening or any of those things,” Issa spokesperson, Becca Watkins, told POLITICO.
So why did Issa speculate about Hillary? Because for Republicans like Issa, Benghazi isn't about Benghazi,
it's about Hillary Clinton in 2016, and in Darrell Issa's mind, every time that he mentions Hillary's name in the same breath as Benghazi, it makes it more likely that Paul Ryan or Chris Christie or Marco Rubio or Rand Paul or whomever it is that Republicans nominate will end up winning the election. And the thing that really frustrates him about Benghazi today is that it still hasn't sunk Hillary—but he's apparently not going to stop trying.
