Charlie, on his way to court to be sentenced for assault ... or, winning!
Let the shutdown follies begin! Later this morning, House Republicans will be voting on the continuing resolution to prevent a government shutdown, while at the same time defunding Obamacare.
This latest effort to defund the president's signature health care law is, of course, dead-on-arrival in the Senate—and everyone knows it—but the drama that the GOP base demands must be played out, so vote they will. After which it will be sent to the Senate, where the Ted Cruzes and Mike Lees of the world's most deliberative body will pretend that there's a snowball's chance in hell that the measure will pass, before the defunding is stripped out and it's sent back to the House ... leaving Speaker of the House John Boehner holding the ball once again. At which point he'll either abandon the Hastert Rule and pass the continuing resolution with a Democratic majority or the government will shut down on October 1.
Now, some might describe this style of governance as hostage-taking, others might just say it's insane. But how does Sen. Rand Paul see it?
Does anybody remember Charlie Sheen when he was kind of going crazy…And he was going around, jumping around saying 'Winning, winning, we’re winning,' Well I kind of feel like that, we are winning. And I’m not on any drugs.
Obviously the time for mandatory drug testing is here. Stay tuned.
Stand with Daily Kos and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in denouncing Republicans who would completely shut down the government just to destroy Obamacare.
