With it becoming more clear by the hour that radical extremists in the Republican party are heading towards a showdown over funding the federal government, the meme that it is losing its mind is becoming more widespread.
Paul Krugman’s column in this morning’s New York Times is headlined: The Crazy Party.
“In recent months, the G.O.P. seems to have transitioned from being the stupid party to being the crazy party,” Krugman writes.
“But as it grows increasingly hard to see how, in the face of Republican hysteria over health reform, we can avoid a government shutdown — and maybe the even more frightening prospect of a debt default — the time for euphemism is past.”
“Crazy” is exactly the right word.
We used a similar term– “lunatic” – on Thursday in “GOP digs in over budget – for no rational reason”
If the GOP thinks it can repeat the same thing over and over again – budget brinkmanship and threatening to shut down the government – and expect a different result, this is the very definition of insanity.
Today’s politics is indeed unprecedented. Never before has one party refused to participate in governing.
The entire economy is suffering. Every voter is being hurt.
And the GOP expects to win the next election this way?
Sheer lunacy.
