This is a huge victory that nobody has talked about," Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R., Fla.), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, said in an interview. "The spending portion of the spending bill we have won."
House Dems make counteroffer to GOP: We'll accept sequester cuts
"Take that [language] off and we'll accept your number," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said at a press briefing in the Capitol. "That's our compromise, that's our offer. We'll take your number to keep government open. Give us a chance to vote for it."
Pelosi and the other House Democratic leaders were quick to note that the sequester-level spending of $986 billion was first championed by Republicans in their initial CR proposal. By contrast, Senate Democrats were pushing for a level of $1.058 trillion.

The jurists issued their unusual alarm call in a letter dated Tuesday and released Thursday that was sent to top congressional leaders, Vice President Joe Biden and the Senate and House Judiciary and Appropriations committees.
The judges detail cuts that they say have forced courts to “slash operations to the bones” and warn that further cutbacks would “profoundly compromise” public safety and the entire judicial system.

Other mandatory spending totaling $47 billion would also be reduced during the 2013-2022 period.[1] This includes cuts to aid for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Insight: Largely out of sight, U.S. budget sequester still cuts deep
The sequester has pulled some teachers from classrooms and police from the streets. It has grounded Air Force planes and docked Navy ships. The Forest Service had 500 fewer "hot shots" to battle summer wildfires. And as many as 140,000 low-income families may not get housing assistance that was once available.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated in July that based on data up to that point, the cuts would cost 900,000 jobs within a year. Goldman Sachs said earlier this month that the federal furloughs had slowed personal income growth over the summer.
