Dear President Obama,
Anyone that uses chemical weapons as in the case of Syria must face the full weight of international law as specified in the Geneva Convention.
Mr. al-Assad should be charged with this crime against humanity and a trial, even in absentia, should be conducted.
We believe that you have the leadership and the authority required to make this happen. We believe the American people and most people around the world will support you. It is important that the process of bringing Mr. al-Assad to justice be conducted within an international law framework whether in the United Nations or in the International Criminal Court.
Once this process is completed and Mr. al-Assad is found guilty, you will have the support of your people and the international community and a precedent will be set to bring to justice anyone who commits war crimes regardless of the nature of the crime and regardless of the position in the government of any nation they occupy. And for whatever it is worth, you will have our complete support.
Certainly America can and should contribute to and even lead the effort in the application of the imposed sentence relying on the might of the military you command, if necessary.
The world is watching and you can help set the standard for future generations.
We look forward to you making the case for such a new way of addressing war crimes at the United Nations as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Perhaps we should do a White House petition.
