Even though a recent school shooting involving a mentally ill man was resolved peacefully by a compassionate school staff member, another Georgia school board wants to store assault rifles in their schools. More insanity below.
Citing the recent shooter confrontation at McNair Academy in Decatur, Georgia among others, the Gainesville City Schools Superintendent Marianne Dyer wants to place assault rifles on the campuses of at least some city schools. Gainesville is located in Hall County, to the northeast of Atlanta and DeKalb County where Decatur is located.
I find it so frustrating that the "more guns" mantra continues considering the peaceful resolution of a shooting not so long ago. Although I'm fairly sure that the Sandy Hook shooting could not have been resolved peacefully as the shooter had already killed his mother, I find the call for more and more weapons in schools disturbing if, sadly, not surprising.
