In the midst of all the coverage of Chris Christie and his apparent use of pre-meditated lane closures at the approaches to the GW Bridge in Fort Lee as a vendetta against the local Democratic mayor for failing to support his re-election, there is now one quote....nearly a year old, which could really nail Christie's chances of weasling out of this mess.
On February 27, 2013, Christie held a press conference and was asked by a young girl to detail what was "the most fun about his job." His response below the orange traffic tie up.
And here is exactly what transpired:
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) joked Wednesday that his favorite thing about being governor was "going to New York City" because he now gets to avoid all the traffic.
Asked by an eight-year-old girl at a town hall in Montville what his favorite thing about being governor was, Christie said he had a fun answer and a serious answer.
"When you're governor, they close the Lincoln Tunnel for you," Christie said. "And you get to drive right through. No traffic. It's the best. I love going to New York now. I used to hate it…. that's the most fun thing on the fun side about being governor."
And in closing the Governor added:
..."every day this job gives me the chance to do something great."
Remember, not only did Christie and/or his staff tie up traffic for days for purposes of revenge, this is the same Governor who refused to authorize New Jersey's participation in a refurbishment of the tunnels leading into NY. So, while his citizens sit daily in lengthy and frustrating traffic jams, the Governor revels in the fact that any time he wants to go into the city, he gets a free passage into town. That's gonna play REAL well with the voters.
This morning's press conference ought to be a doozy.
