C'mon, let's play a game! Put that book down and don your thinking cap. I've got a little literary diversion for your lazy Saturday afternnoon. It's easy, it's fun, and the only rules are:
1. Use your imagination
2. Don't use the Google
3. You may post as many triplets as you wish without reusing the same linking word.
Well, I have to impose some restrictions to make it a brain teaser. Otherwise, it's just a cut 'n' paste exercise. And that's no fun. So, honor system, everybody. I'd say it's fair to consult personal book journals, and get other people involved -- you know, ask a friend, or the person sitting next to you, to help you think up a title and remember an author. Tell you what, it's fair to spell-check authors' names using Google. Honor system.
We can make this really fun. Tomorrow we'll have a Vote Diary and pick a winner of the game. And I'll supply a bookish prize! ANYONE can play.
Please turn the page. . .
The name of the game is (I am making this up) Triple Title Link. Here's how you play. Think of a book title. Then think of another one that begins with the last word of the previous title; then think of a third that begins with the last word of the second title. Throw in the authors' names and maybe a bit of narrative of how you came up with your three linked title and post it in the comments below.
Here's an example of one I created for LibraryThing where I first discovered this game and am now importing to our playing field.
The Milagro Beanfield War by John Nichols
War and Remembrance by Herman Wouk
Remembrance of Things Past by Marcel Proust
Here's how I devised this list: I cast about in my mind for a noun that I thought held broad possibilities as a subject to write about. Since titles of books usually are composed of their subject words, "war" sprang to mind because a lot of books are about that subject.
It goes without saying that "love" (and its variants) and "heart" are probably two other words that can lead your imagination onto fertile ground. "Wife" and "boy" and "adventure(s)" may prove good take-offs.
Anyway, you may come at the problem differently. Creativity is all we're after. So, get going and post your triplets below.
And -- NO cheating! ;^)
The lagniappe factor of this game, is if enough people play, we have a fine list of novels that R&BLers can add to their TBR piles. That's always a good thing, right? And it's a prize for everyone. Let the game begin!
Other than that, nothing's happening.
