ThinkContext is a browser extension which adds contextually relevant progressive campaign information into your web browsing. The latest version includes data from Unite HERE's Union Hotel Guide and the Restaurant Opportunities Center's restaurant rating program.
The extension works by keying off of the url of the restaurant when it appears in search engine results, a text advertisement or if you visit the restaurant website. The software inserts an icon to give you a visual indication that info is available. Then you can click or hover the mouse over it and it will tell you what the sources have to say about the establishment, is it unionized, is there a labor dispute where a boycott is called for, do they provide sick days, etc.
Say you are using Google to look for a hotel in DC. One of the results that comes up in your search results is in the Union Hotel Guide database on the boycott list so an icon appears next to it:
Hover the mouse over the icon to reveal more info, along with a link to the Hotel Guide:
In addition to labor info ThinkContext can display data related to several other progressive campaigns, including the
StopRush.net database of Limbaugh advertisers,
B Corporations, a directory of companies committed to more than the bottom line,
The Green Pages, companies with sustainable values and the
Bechdel Test, a database of movies that where female characters speak to each other about something besides men. The software gives you the option to select which of the campaigns you want to receive notifications about.
Hopefully you'll find the software useful in providing you with information that can assist you in living your values.
